Tips for Maintaining a Healthy Back

Many people take the health of their backs for granted, especially in their youth. They engage in activities that strain the back and don’t even make an effort to help the back recover. We recommend that you take good care of your back even when there are no health conditions affecting it yet. Here are a few tips to help you keep a healthy back.

Practice Good Posture

When our maintain good posture it helps you stand, sit, walk and lie in a position that strains your back the supporting muscles of your back the least as you move and engage in different activities. It also helps reduce the straining and wearing of joints and bones, which could later result in arthritis and joint pain.

Sit Properly

Yes, there is a correct way of sitting. Always keep your feet on the ground, or purchase a footrest if they do not reach the ground. Secondly, never cross your legs, always make sure that your ankles are in front of your knees. Last but not least; always ensure that you do not sit in the same position for too long.

Standing Properly

Your mother probably taught you when you were younger, to always stand up straight and never slouch. Well, mother does know best. Another good tip for standing properly is tucking your stomach in. By so doing you will be straightening your shoulders and pushing your head back, which is good for your back.
