What To Expect From Your First Visit with a Chiropractor in Johannesburg
The first visit with a Chiropractor is generally the longest and can typically last anywhere from 45mins – 1hour.
The initial consult will consist of the following:
Your first consult will start with the Chiropractor taking your full medical history. Always try to be as thorough and upfront about health issues that you and close relatives have faced in the past. This information will help the Chiropractic professional make an informed assessment of your current health.
You will then be given a complete physical exam that will analyse your posture, range of motion and reflexes if necessary. The Chiropractor may also perform other orthopaedic and neurological tests and in certain cases, an X-Ray may be required.
The assessment and medical history will help the Chiropractor to draw up a treatment plan specifically designed to treat your individual health concerns. You would then also receive your first treatment which could be a spinal and pelvic manipulation, deep tissue massage or trigger point therapy for example.
At the end of the first or second consult, the Chiropractor will give you advice on what you need to change in your lifestyle. This can be specific exercises, changing your sleeping position, targeted stretching or dietary changes.
Follow up consultations with the Chiropractor would be between 20 and 30 minutes long. Your progress will be regularly reviewed and the treatment plan will also be modified if necessary. If no or little improvement is noted, the Chiropractor may request more tests to be done or refer you to another health care professional.
